Het nieuwsbureau Bloomberg meldde afgelopen week dat Apple bezig is met de ontwikkeling van een vers besturingssysteem voor nieuw aan te bieden Apple Smart Glasses. Deze augmented reality-headset wordt mogelijk in 2020 aan consumenten voorgeschoteld.
Apple-CEO Tim Cook heeft verklaard dat deze slimme brillen net zo transformatief kunnen zijn als smartphones. Het bedrijf heeft veel smart-glasses patenten in handen en heeft reeds honderden technici die aan zijn rOS besturing werken.
Een groot gedeelte van de kracht van Apple komt daarnaast van de hand van ontwikkelaars en de hulpmiddelen die Apple hen biedt. Apple heeft dan ook al een framework ontwikkeld, de ARKit, om ontwikkelaars augmented reality-apps voor de iPhone te laten maken.
De nieuwe Apple-headset maakt zoals vermeld gebruik van augmented reality. Dit is een technologie die werkt met elementen vanuit de virtuele wereld. Via APPs en games mengt het de data met de echte wereld.
Met de lancering van dergelijke apps verandert het de manier waarop je bijvoorbeeld online kan kopen. Uiteraard is het spelen van games op augmented reality-platforms een geweldige ervaring. Daarnaast kan je spraakopdrachten geven en via de digitale bril foto of video opnames maken.
